BVM MUN 2015

Bala Vidya Mandir  conducted the fourth edition of MUN on 29th and 30th October 2015. The  inauguration on 29th October was attended by the Principal, Vice Principal and Headmistress. Secretary General Siddharth Saravanan of Class XII declared the MUN open. The students of Class X and XI participated as Delegates and the students of Class XII chaired the various committees and headed the World Press. This year MUN had 6 committees- Security Council, ECOSOC, DISEC, UNEP, HRC and African Union. The Chairs of the various committees finalized agendas like:

Continued strife against the ISIS ,.Civil War in South Sudan and Libya, Preventing Drug Trafficking related crimes, addressing the refugee crisis in the middle east-recognizing Europe’s role as a host , tackling water scarcity increasing access to safe water  and demilitarization of the Arctic Circle. The chairs and the Delegates participated enthusiastically in the MUN.  The second day witnessed the Emergency session which has always been the highlight of the MUN. The students of the World Press brought out a wonderful news letter at the end of the second Day.

MUN gives the students of Bala Vidya Mandir a wonderful opportunity to hone their debating skills, draft resolutions and prepare a news letter. The students of the World Press apart from covering the discussions held in the various committees also drew wonderful caricatures which were incorporated in the News Letter.  In each committee Best Delegate trophy was awarded, along with Best Position Paper certificate and Special Mention Certificate. This year two new certificates for the Best Admin were also introduced.

The most unique feature of Bala Vidya Mandir Model UN is all the students of Class X participate either as Delegates or as members of the World Press. The joy of training students to participate in Model UN is a very satisfying experience.  The students learn important lessons of diplomacy, conflict resolution and critical thinking which hold them in good stead in their future lives.
