Navarathiri 2017

Navrathri was celebrated in our school in a grand manner from Friday 1st of September 2017 to 15th September 2017. Children brought handmade golu dolls for the school’s 5-step golu which was set up in the school lobby.  Children were selected from the lower primary classes who were dressed up as Goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati and the children recited slokas and bhajans. Each day a parent or grandparent was invited to witness the celebration and we honoured them with a “Tamboolam.”

The first three days were celebrated by 3rd standard students. On the first day of the Pooja, Goddess Durga was worshiped.  On the second and third day, Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Saraswathi were worshiped in a similar fashion.

The fourth, fifth and sixth day was celebrated by class 4 children in the same way and class 5 children celebrated it on the seventh, eighth and ninth day.  Each day children recited slokas in front of the golu stand. On the ninth day, they rendered bhajans and had dance performances.

KG NAVARATRI

Navaratri  was celebrated with “pomp and glory” on 15th of September in the “Vidya Peet” auditorium and in Pre-Kg corridor. Children were involved in arranging the golu padi by encouraging them to bring dolls from home. The dolls were arranged in 5 steps. The venue was decorated with Navaratri charts and streamers. Children came dressed up in traditional attire, which made a spectacular visual treat for everyone. Beautiful Rangoli was made in front of the Golu. Children sang Navaratri songs like “Adukkadukkai padikatti…”, “Chinna bommai…”, “Thanjavuru bommai.” with lots of enthusiasm. The icing on the cake for the children was when our chief guest - a child’s grandmother Mrs. Savithri  sang a new song on Navaratri. Children were completely engaged, when she explained the significance and sequential events during the nine days of Navarathri in simple words. The occasion was graced by our Vice-principal Mrs.Usha and Headmistress Mrs. Jamuna  Thamboolam was offered to the guests by our tiny tots. Celebration came to an end with children carrying home little Durga bommai and sundal was distributed as prasadam.
